FESTIVE CHEER FOR THE VOYAGER CENTRE
The Kedron-Wavell RSL Sub-branch's Voyager Centre will get a grant of more than $8000 from the Rudd Government just in time for Christmas.Lilley MP Wayne Swan said the funding was part of the Rudd Government's Veteran and Community Grants program.
"Veteran & Community Grants provide on-the-ground funding for local projects that promote the health and wellbeing in the veteran community," Mr Swan said.
"The Voyager Centre is a fantastic local initiative developed by the Sub-branch for members to learn new skills and enjoy being a part of a community organisation.
"You're never too old to learn new skills and put them to good use for the local community - the Voyager Centre has helped many locals do just that"
The Voyager Centre Project Manager Ian Keech said the grant was a fantastic early Christmas present for the members.
"This is absolutely great news for the centre," Mr Keech said.
"We'll be able to buy new saw blades for the wood work class and new tools for the many other daily classes we run like picture framing, lead lighting and pottery."
Mr Keech said the centre started 10 years ago when the Sub-branch community saw a need for people to gather together to be able to pursue a hobby.
"The centre is open to anyone who is a member of the RSL and it's a great way to be involved in the local community and learn new skills at the same time," he said.
Veteran & Community Grants are available to ex-service and community organisations, veteran representative groups and private organisations that contribute to the health and welfare of the veteran community.
"I congratulate The Voyager Centre on its good work, and this valuable initiative to support our veterans," Mr Swan said.
