A NEW $3.6 MILLION HALL FOR EARNSHAW STATE COLLEGE

Students and teachers at Earnshaw State College have received a big win with a new $3 million sports hall opening its doors today.

The hall was officially opened by the Federal Member for Lilley Wayne Swan.

Mr Swan said the indoor sports hall includes: full sized basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton and futsal courts. The hall has a rubberised floor, storage, amenities, a kiosk and a stage for assemblies.

"I congratulate the school and its community on establishing the best possible facilities for their students," he said.

"These outstanding facilities will help ensure all students at Earnshaw State College are encouraged to realise their full potential and attain their goals."

The project, totalling $3.67 million was funded by the Australian Government under the Capital Grants Program $3.225 and the State Government $445 000.

Mr Swan said the project demonstrated the Australian Government's commitment to providing every student with the best possible learning environment through the provision of these new/updated facilities.

The Australian Government provides significant funding under the Capital Grants Program to support the construction and upgrading of schools in partnership with non government school authorities and school communities, which have primary responsibility for providing, maintaining and upgrading their school facilities.

Mr Swan said Earnshaw State School has a new state-of-the-art multipurpose centre underway thanks to the Building the Education Revolution program. Under the program the school received $2.5 million for a new library and $200,000 for improvements and upgrades.

"Combined these three projects have meant a huge investment in schools and a fantastic shot in the arm for the local economy. The benefits extend to local suppliers, small businesses, contractors and truck drivers," Mr Swan said.
