FREE BBQ AT DOWSE LAGOON SAT 13TH FEB

LOCALS are encouraged to join Federal MP for Lilley Wayne Swan and Councillor Victoria Newton for a barbecue at Dowse Lagoon on Saturday, 13th February.

Mr Swan said the barbecue was to celebrate the fantastic new facilities at Dowse Lagoon.

"There has been a huge amount of work happening to revitalise Dowse Lagoon recently and I urge residents to come down on Saturday to see the improvements, have a sausage sizzle and have a chat to Victoria and myself," Mr Swan said.

Cr for Deagon Ward Victoria Newton said the work is being undertaken over two financial years at a cost of $1.5 million in total with contributions from the Rudd Government and Brisbane City Council.

"The first stage includes three new electric BBQs (which will replace the wooden ones), four new picnic shelters, new exercise equipment, a 4m high climbing net, shade sails over the playground, and drinking fountain upgrades," Cr Newton said.

"Also, weed removal and revegetation around the perimeter of the lagoon has started and will be done progressively in stages thanks to funding assistance from the Federal Government."
